"Scientists
discover 91 volcanoes below Antarctic ice sheet"
Experts have identified 91 volcanoes hidden underneath
the massive ice sheet covering west Antarctica, revealing one of the world's
largest volcanic areas

The project, by Edinburgh University researchers, has
revealed almost 100 volcanoes, with the highest as tall as the Eiger, which
stands at almost 4,000 meters in Switzerland.
Geologists say this great area is likely to minimize
that of east Africa’s volcanic ridge, currently rated the densest concentration
of volcanoes in our planet.
The most important question is: how active are these
volcanoes?
“Theory suggests that this is happening because, without
ice sheets on top of them, there is a release of pressure on the regions’
volcanoes and they become more active.”
And this could happen in west Antarctica, where significant
warming in the area caused by atmosphere change has begun to affect its ice
sheets. If they are reduced significantly, this could release pressure on the
volcanoes that lie below and lead to eruptions that could further destabilize
the ice sheets and enhance sea level rises that are already affecting our
oceans.
I find it impressive. This to the archeologists as one comes incredible. Opens a sensational field to start working and brings us several surprises. There are several parts of the world that are not yet discovered that are so impressive that no one can imagine it. The planet earth is awesome and every day I fall in love more
ReplyDeleteSo close! So happy scientis discovered this volcanoes on time! A tragedy could have happened if we weren't conssious about this magma area😀 Now we have to wish no news about this volcaneo because they can affect south pole's enviorment.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how we keep discovering new things in this planet. But it also makes me feel afraid not knowing many thing that could be dangerous to us and we can not be prepared.
ReplyDeleteSome of this recently discovered volcanoes are located in the Chilean Antartic Peninsula. That means that there are even more volcanoes in our country than we thought! It is so surprising that there are that many volcanoes in Chile! We are probably one of the countries with more volcanoes in our soil!
ReplyDeleteIt's awesome as this strange and icy place hides amazing things. Where science can discover new and magnificent discoveries. Every day the world impresses me more with these discoveries. What else will be in this frozen and remote place?
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how the world give us the opportunity to discover new things. All of this discoverments help us to understand and learn new things of the place where we live, it is awesome!
ReplyDeleteThis is clearly a consequence of the damage we are doing it to our earth. What would happen if we didn't catch it on time?. On the other hand, seeing the positive side, I think i amazing that a volcano exist on the Antarctic, I sincerely didn't expect this to happen.
ReplyDeleteEvery day more and more amazing discoveries are made. I didn't think that this was even possible, but is one of many surprises that the Earth have for us. I am glad that we found out on time so we can take all the precautions. This makes me wonder how many things are still unkown for us in our own planet!
ReplyDeletei think its a really good thing that we have people interested in knowing everyday more and more about our planet, about its caracteristics and how it works, but also i thinks that this types of thing are really interesting, because what if we discover underground volcanos near us? its something that i dont know if i want to know...
