The US Open
The US Open is a very prestigious tennis tournament and it is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year. It takes place in New York at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center and it is held on outdoor hard courts.
This year the championship will be from August 28th to September 10th and it is going to be the 137th edition played.
The tournament consists of both men and women singles and doubles draws as well as a mixed doubles events. There are also singles and doubles events for both boys and girls, players under 18.
Sadly the number two ranked player by the ATP association, Andy Murray, has pulled out of the US Open two days before the start of the tournament after failing to recover from a hip injury made at the Wimbledon Grand Slam this year.
On a interview Murray said he will focus entirely on 2018. He will not win Grand Slams if he is only 80% fit, and unable to move with the speed and purpose which has brought him so much success so far.
The fact that Murray is stepping out of the tournament gives a higher chance for other players like Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Dominic Thiem and many other to win this important tournament.
Probably this 137th edition of the US Open will be full of glorious and astonishing moments. Specially because two historical players, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will be fighting, once again for their 16th and 20th Grand Slam title respectively.
It is so sad that this great player is unable to participate in this addition of the us open but this might be the opportunity for younger players to show their potential and maybe win against the typical grand slams champions mentioned before.
