Violent Volcano Eruption Injures Film Crew and Others

Ten people were injured when Mount Etna, Europe's most active volcano, erupted with lava, rocks, and hot steam.

 
Ten people were injured after Mount Etna erupted explosively Thursday.


The injured included a BBC film crew and a number of tourists. Rebecca Morelle, a global science reporter for the BBC, tweeted about the ordeal.
 

"Many injured—some head injuries, burns, cuts and bruises. Volcanologist said most dangerous incident experience in his 30 year career," she said in one tweet.
 

"Running down a mountain pelted by rocks, dodging burning boulders and boiling steam—not an experience I ever ever want to repeat."

The lava was so explosive that it could be seen from space.


Ten injuries were logged by the attending medical team. A group of rescuers and guides helped the reporters and tourists descend the mountain with minimal injury.
 
 
The team was on Etna's mountainside to film a report on advancements in volcano monitoring.


The suddenness of the incident was a reminder of just how unpredictable volcanos can be.
 
 
 The explosion was caused by what's known as a "phreatic eruption" which occurs when water heated by magma or lava boils water and creates explosive steam

    I agree with you Constanza, it is of the utmost importance that we take conscious and never underestimate the power of nature and how dangerous it can be. I think that the solution is to always take all the precautionary measures and to be aware that playing with nature could turn to be a fatal event.

    I think people shouldn't be allowed to climb an active volcano, it should be forbidden. Also, there should be more knowledge wether the volcano is near to an explotion or not, improving in instruments that measure the pressure inside the crater. It is very important what you, Constanza, say because we can not be playing around with nature when we know and understand its unpredictability. Also, nature is more powerful than we are and we should never forget that.

    I agree with you, Coni. I think we have to be aware of the power and streangth of nature. I think people should not be allowed to be near an active volcano, is too much of a risk to take, considering that it could explode at any moment. Also, we should be more educated in terms of natural disasters.

    I can´t believe how foolish people coud be, now a days there are a lost of instrumentes that can predict or have a almost exact information about volcanos and their power. I think that we need to be more educated about nature and the consecuence of the power that it has because poeple are underestimating the power and then sufering the consecuences, I agree with asu that climbing a volcano needs to be forbidden.

  The US Open is a very prestigious tennis tournament and it is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year. It takes place in New York at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center and it is  held on outdoor  hard courts .  This year the championship will be from  August 28th to September 10th and it is going to be the  137th edition played.  The tournament consists of both men and women singles and doubles draws as well as a mixed doubles events.
